When Life Gives You Lemonade...

Why do bad things happen to good people? What do we do when tragedy happens? When hard times befall us? There really is no good answer to any of these questions. The fact is that bad things happen and it happens to good and bad people alike. Life is not easy, God never promised life to be easy. But in the book of Revelation, God does promise us some wonderful things:

Revelations 21:1-6: Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”

You may have heard of the proverbial phrase, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Well what happens when life gives you something completely unexpected like lemonade...and you might not even like lemons or lemonade at all! Well when life gives you lemonade, make lemons. Life will be all like whaaat. That is not my quote, its a quote my wife shared with me watching one of her favorite TV shows.

The great lesson of life is that we do not have control about what happens to us. We do have control, however, what we choose to believe, what we choose to do with our lives, and how to respond to tragedy. God has given us a promise that one day there will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain. But until that day comes, let us all learn to "make lemons with lemonade" and the results well that just might surprise us.
